Every pair of Elppá is made by hand in a family-run workshop on the edge of Braga, in the north of Portugal. The family has been making shoes there for 40 years.
Each upper is cut, stitched, lasted and shaped before the sole is attached, and every pair is checked before it's packaged. Production is kept small, so the workshop can look after each batch from start to finish.
Our shoes are made by Mr Casimiro and his team. He has been making shoes for over forty years, and his support has mattered to us since the beginning. These days he calls our shoes runners, the Irish way, instead of sapatilhas or ténis.
The shoes are made to be repaired. The sole is cemented rather than stitched through, so a cobbler can replace it and the upper carries on.
